Bio - Founded by drummer Greg Colligan, The Dysfunktionals are San Diego’s newest funk force—born from one musician’s vision and built through the city’s vibrant music community. What started as an idea quickly grew into a full-on groove machine, fueled by the shared passion of five friends who just couldn’t resist the call of funk.
The lineup came together in true grassroots style:
Greg reconnected with longtime friend and bassist James, after playing together in a previous project.
Through a Facebook connection, he linked up with powerhouse vocalist and guitarist Mariano.
An online ad brought in versatile keyboardist and backup singer Jeff.
And a chance encounter at an open mic in Escondido sealed the deal with saxophonist Tim.
With everyone in their late 30s, the band shares not only musical chemistry but also a common goal: to have fun, bring people together, and keep the funk alive for lively crowds across San Diego and Orange County.
From groovy bass lines to soulful vocals, sizzling keys, funky guitar riffs, and a sax that brings the house down, The Dysfunktionals bring the kind of high-energy, good-time sound that gets people moving and smiling.
This isn’t just a band—it’s a community project, a collaboration of musicians who love the music as much as the audiences they play for. Whether you catch them at a local bar, a beachside venue, or a private event, one thing’s guaranteed: the funk will be in full effect
